Distilla
№ 01 / 2026 A field guide for photo libraries

Distill
your memories

A calm, mindful way to refine your photo library —
a few quiet minutes at a time.

Most apps push you to delete. Distilla slows down. It surfaces a single dense day from your camera roll — a trip, a birthday, an ordinary Saturday — and lets you walk through it, photo by photo. Keep what matters, gently let go of the rest. Space recovered is a side effect, not the goal.

№ 01

Refine,
don't delete.

Distilla isn't about clearing space. It's about surfacing what matters in a library you stopped looking at long ago. Keep the photographs you'd save in a fire; let the others rest. Storage recovered is a by-product, never the point.

№ 02

Short,
calm sessions.

A few minutes between meetings, on a commute, in a quiet morning moment. Distilla is built for small windows of attention rather than marathon clean-ups. Open it, breathe, decide. Close it.

№ 03

Private
by design.

Everything runs on your iPhone alone. No servers, no accounts, no analytics, no third-party SDKs. Photos stay local. Decisions stay local. Nothing ever leaves the phone — because there is nowhere for it to go.

№ 04

Quiet
momentum.

Streaks, milestones, and a record of your practice — celebrating the rhythm without rushing you. Distilla is meant to be small, repeated kindly, and deeply your own.

II  ·  The method

Three small steps,
repeated kindly.

Distilla finds a dense day in your library, builds a focused session, and lets you decide one card at a time.

Step 01

Pick a day.

Distilla surfaces days dense with photos and videos — a trip, a birthday, an ordinary Saturday — with their date, place, and count. You begin with context, not a faceless feed.

Step 02

Swipe through.

Right to keep what matters, left to gently let go. Visually similar shots are grouped automatically, so you choose the one frame that captures the moment best — the rest follow it.

Step 03

Release calmly.

Review the queue, then release in a single mindful confirmation. Photos use iOS's standard 30-day recovery flow — nothing is ever irrevocable, nothing is rushed.

III  ·  A statement

Your photographs
never leave
your phone.

Distilla runs on your iPhone alone. Analysis, similarity, decisions and deletions all happen locally. We don't have a server — because we don't need one, and don't want one.

A few common questions.

Q.01 Will Distilla delete my photos automatically?

No. Every release is confirmed by you. Distilla uses iOS's standard deletion flow, so released photos go to your Recently Deleted album, where you can recover them for 30 days before they are permanently removed by iOS itself.

Q.02 Does it work with iCloud Photos?

Yes. Distilla works with whatever photo library you have set up, including iCloud-synced libraries. iCloud syncing is handled by iOS itself, transparently.

Q.03 What devices does it support?

iPhone running iOS 17 or newer.

Q.04 Will it be free?

Distilla is in TestFlight today and arrives on the App Store soon. Pricing details closer to launch.

Q.05 How do I get notified at launch?

Drop a line to hello@distilla.app and we'll let you know when it goes live.
