Privacy policy.
This document explains how Distilla ("we", "the app") handles information when you use it. The short version, in plain English:
Distilla is built to be private by default. Your photos and videos never leave your device. We don't have a server. We don't have user accounts. We don't use analytics or advertising SDKs. We don't share, sell, or transmit your data to anyone.
Information we access
- Your photo library. With your permission, Distilla reads photos and videos from your library so you can review them. This stays local to your phone.
- On-device analysis. To group visually similar photos, Distilla uses your iPhone's built-in tools. The analysis runs entirely on your device and its results never leave it.
- Place names. When showing the context of a session (date and place), Distilla asks iOS to convert the coordinates already stored in your photo's metadata into a readable place name. iOS handles this lookup through Apple's services — we don't intercept or see the request. See Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles such requests.
Information we collect
None. We have no servers, no analytics, and no telemetry. The app does not transmit your photos, videos, decisions, or any usage data to us or to any third party.
What's stored on your device
- The decisions you make during a session (kept / released).
- Cached thumbnails for your Review Queue.
- Your stats — totals, streaks, milestones.
All of this stays on your phone, and is removed if you uninstall the app.
Photo deletion
When you confirm releasing photos, Distilla uses iOS's standard photo deletion. iOS itself shows you a confirmation prompt, and the photos go to your Recently Deleted album, where you can recover them for 30 days before they are permanently removed.
Permissions
- Photo library access (required) — to show you photos to review and to delete the ones you choose to release.
No other permissions are requested.
Children
Distilla is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Third-party services
Distilla uses no third-party SDKs, no analytics, and no advertising networks. It relies only on your iPhone's built-in tools.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the effective date and post the new version at distilla.app/privacy.
